A Willys MB Frame-Off Restoration, Back on the Road

I bought this 1944 Willys MB in 2016 from a gentleman in Mendon, NY. He bought it in the late 1960’s from a bar in Binghamton, NY. Based off the strata blue paint we found underneath the white paint it was wearing at the time of purchase, I believe it spent some time with a local air base at some point in its life. It languished in our barn until the pandemic hit, a victim of life’s circumstances and a lack of time.

Once the pandemic started in 2020, my father decided it was time for the restoration. His collision shop, Saxby’s Collision, out of Bloomfield, NY did the work. Initially, we were just going to do the bare minimum to get it back on the road.

What started out as a quick respray quickly turned into a complete frame off restoration. Like so many others, I went down a rabbit hole of sourcing parts and doing research. The parts catalogue at Kaiser Jeep Willy became a go-to source for what we needed. Almost two years to the day from when we started, we declared the games done (as far as having old Jeeps can ever be “done”). With a build date of 12-21-1944, this 78 year old veteran is now cruising the streets of Fort Benning, GA once again. With help from Kaiser Willys, I hope to keep it on the road for years to come.
