Japanese Grand Prix will be held at the Suzuka Circuit. The official race title will be Formula 1 Honda Japanese Grand Prix 2022.
Honda has been a big name in the sport of Formula 1 for many years. Last year Max Verstappen drove the Honda-powered Red Bull Racing car to the championship. That gave Honda its first Formula 1 World Championship since Ayrton Senna took the 1991 title. It is early in the 2022 season but so far, the Honda-powered cars seem to be in thick of the championship race yet again. Verstappen is currently in second place in the driver standings. So, it should not come as a huge surprise that with the recent success that Honda has been confirmed as the title sponsor of the Japanese Grand Prix for 2022.
Koji Watanabe, Operating Executive, Head of Corporate Communications Supervisory Unit, Honda Motor Co., Ltd, made the announcement. “It is great pleasure for Honda to be named as the title sponsor of the F1 Japanese Grand Prix to be held at the Suzuka Circuit which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. In this year’s Japanese Grand Prix, 10 teams including Oracle Red Bull Racing and Scuderia AlphaTauri, which Honda supports as a team partner, will compete with 20 drivers who will demonstrate their driving skills and talent at the highest peak in the world of racing. By contributing to this outstanding Grand Prix, Honda will continue supporting the further promotion and popularization of motorsports in Japan.”

Honda Formula 1
Honda entered Formula 1 back in 1964. By the end of last season, the manufacturer had won 89 races, six driver championships and six manufacturer championships. So far in 2022 the Honda-powered Red Bull Racing team is second to Ferrari in the constructor standings. There were some reliability issues at the start of the season but those seem to be resolved at this point. If the Honda power units remain reliable, they have a real chance of taking the constructor championship in 2022. In any event it should be an exciting season. It is good to have Suzuka back on the Formula 1 calendar and it is even better to see Honda fighting for championships again.
