Kaiser Willys Jeep of the Week: 595

595: Mark Dulken’s 1963 Willys CJ-3B

Approximately eighteen months ago I decided to restore my family’s 1963 Willys CJ-3B Jeep my dad bought used in 1965, when I was just 5 years old. It was our farm vehicle for chores, dove hunting and ice cream fetching. Lots of good memories of my dad behind the wheel. It also served not only as me and my siblings first vehicle but all our grandkids learned how to drive in it too. Yes, they’re millennial’s and yes it’s a manual (haha). It’s been in my possession since my dad passed over 12 yrs ago and I take the responsibility of ownership and care seriously. Just recently it enjoyed a body-off repaint (colors inspired by 60’s era Unimogs), new wiring, disc brakes, body lift and best of all ..a bigger engine, the wonderful Dauntless 225 Odd-fire. Its current duties continue to be trailwork support for our local Forest Service district in a volunteer capacity, general joy riding and a little grocery getting. I told everyone who had a hand in the rebuild that preservation was priority over presentation. I think the most important thing about owning a piece of history like this is to drive it all you can.
