What’s a “mild hybrid,” you may ask?
The answer lies in the inaugural generation of Volvo B5/B6 powertrains. Containing a 48-volt battery, the energy from braking is recovered and stored. This is then used when the combustion engine needs a boost of power, with fuel sufficiently saved despite acceleration.
These new Volvo powertrains are slowly replacing the previous T5/T6 powertrains found in Volvo fuel-fired models. Therefore, in essence, Volvo Cars is well on its way towards reshaping its line-up going forward. Wherein all sales worldwide will be split evenly between Volvo hybrids and pure-electric models by a date certain.

Volvo C40 Recharge is signaling the way forward. With an overnight charge, up to 200+miles of pure-electric roaming are enabled. The interior is free of leather entirely, with only recyclable materials used. Google applications are built-in, and come to life by uttering, “Hey Google.” No more fuel, oil changes or engine tune-ups.
